PALISADES VISION

Palisades School Counseling Program will provide all students the opportunity to acquire social-emotional, academic, and career skills to reach their fullest potential. By providing these opportunities, students will be lifelong learners and leaders who are productive citizens that will make transformative change in the 21st century. 

PALISADES MISSION

Palisades School Counseling Program is to ensure equity, access and success for all students. This is accomplished by providing a safe and nurturing environment in which the needs, interests and issues related to social-emotional, academic, and college/career development of all students are met. In collaboration with educational stakeholders, parents and community members, using data and evidence-based interventions, the counseling program guides students to high standards of integrity, independence, responsibility and success. The school counseling program advocates for students and equips them with the self-confidence necessary to reach their highest potential and challenges each student to become caring citizens and lifelong learners in today’s multicultural and technological world.

PALISADES BELIEFS

All Students:
  • Are unique, valuable, and capable of reaching their highest potential.
  • Can learn and achieve social-emotional and academic success when encouraged and nurtured in a positive and safe environment.
  • Should feel safe, supported and encouraged at school.
  • Are resilient, can be academically successful and productive members of society.
  • Deserve to be members of a school community that is culturally compassionate, responsive, and that celebrates their own unique qualities.
  • Learn best when positive relationships are present and fostered by all educational stakeholders. 
The School Counseling Program:
  • Uses data-driven evidence in order to evaluate the needs and effectiveness of programs in place, as well as to provide appropriate future programs or interventions.
  • Is child centered, developmentally appropriate, and preventative.
  • Is based upon specified goals, input from staff and parents, and developmental student standards.
  • Will consider the needs of the whole student, thoughtfully considering all ethnic, cultural, racial, socioeconomic, gender differences, developmental, and emotional exceptionalities. 
  • Will collaborate with district and school leaders to advance school-wide behavioral, social/emotional, and academic goals.
The School Counselor:
  • Will advocate for all students to gain access to academic, social-emotional and college and career support utilizing Multi-tiered System of Supports Utilizes data to manage and evaluate the school counseling program on a regular basis.
  • Will collaborate with families, stakeholders, and community resources to meet the needs of all students and assist in their development.
  • Will abide by the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors to make informed decisions that increase equity and access to opportunities for students.
  • Will utilize data to inform program decisions to ensure all students’ needs are met.
